我难忘:一位福州海员的故事

China Catholics in fact are all loyal to the Church. In 1983, here in Singapore, I was struck by the faith of a sailor from Fuzhou.

He came on a Sunday afternoon after your Zhonglian meeting. You brought him to me, saying that he was looking for a priest. I asked him if he was a catholic. He said "Yes, my parent have told me: if you go to Singapore, try and meet a priest and make a confession" "Do you know what is a confession? "I dont know"- "Can you pray the Our Father"-"Yes, I can in foukinese" He recited Our Father and Hail Mary and told me that at home they prayed the rosary every day.

His Chinese surname was Xinqiang, which means "strong faith"

A few months later he came again from Singapore harbor under a heavy rain. He showed me a paper with a list of catholic books. "Our guniang (sister), he said, told me: if you cannot find these books, any book of our Church will do"

Our Singapore Zhonglian team has understood this appeal from our brothers and sisters in China.
